Born in Macon, Georgia Cal Straub is best known as a Case Study House architect for the Saul Bass Residence during his partnership with Buff, Straub, and Hensman. Straub was enchanted by wood, and worked extensively in post-and-beam style. He attributed much of his inspiration to the work of Greene and Greene and the Arts and Crafts movement.
Straub also has a legacy as an educator: from 1946-1961 he was a professor of Architecture at USC. Thereafter, he relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where he taught at Arizona State University (ASU). He also built several single-family residences in the Phoenix area.
