“World-Building
Avatar, The Way of Water: From Concept to Construction in Film and Television”
is the topic for the next installment in our in-person series VISUAL WORLD WITH
VICTORIA LAUTMAN at the historic Neutra Office Building in Silver Lake. If you can’t
attend in person, you can watch the Zoom simulcast or the recorded version at
your leisure.
The
process of creating convincing scenes onscreen – whether digital “concept”
designs or physical sets – is often unknown to most audiences, but both can be
necessary to achieve a director’s vision. In the case of James Cameron’s Avatar
movies, technology was pushed to new heights: concept designs worked closely
with complex motion-capture techniques to create the astonishing visuals.
Join
us for a compelling illustrated conversation with two industry veterans about
their work on Avatar, how the world and creatures were generated, and the
intense collaboration that exists behind-the-scenes between Concept Designers
and Art Directors. You may never look at a movie the same way again…
