On Saturday, March 22nd, join Victoria
Lautman as she explores “The Cross-Cultural Architectural Fantasies of Robert
Stacy-Judd” with filmmaker, curator, and author Jesse Lerner. This in-person
and Zoom event will be located at the historic Neutra Office Building in Silver
Lake.
Remnants of architect and writer Robert Stacy-Judd’s
flamboyant handiwork are strewn throughout LA.
Stacy-Judd designed the striking Aztec Hotel in
Monrovia (1924) around the same time as the Frank Lloyd Wright Ennis house.
Other unique projects followed, like the Ventura First Baptist Church (1932),
the Pueblo Revival Atwater Bungalows (c. 1931), the Philosophical Research
Society in Los Feliz (1934), and the North Hollywood Masonic Temple (1949), all
of which can still be seen today in various states of preservation.
VISUAL
WORLD with Victoria Lautman explores the constructed environment in
its various forms: architecture, design, fashion, art, landscape, or their
intersections. A long-time cultural journalist, Lautman
has contributed to many newspapers and magazines, and hosted
long-running programs. In 2017 she published The Vanishing Stepwells of India (Merrell, London), a groundbreaking book about
the little-known architectural marvels.
