“Love Affair with LA” Tim Street-Porter and Annie Kelly
In-person and Zoom salon
Saturday, April 20, 2024

Join SAH/SCC for the first in the new salon series, “Visual World with Victoria Lautman.” For this event, “Love Affair with LA,” Lautman will be joined by Tim Street-Porter and Annie Kelly to discuss their new book, City of Dreams: Los Angeles Interiors - Inspiring Homes of Architects, Designers, and Artists (Rizzoli). The series will be held at the historic Neutra Office Building, 2379 Glendale Boulevard in Silver Lake.

For forty-plus years, Tim Street-Porter and Annie Kelly have been life-partners and collaborators. Both are authors with umpteen books and articles between them, while Street-Porter is perhaps the most recognized architecture and design photographer in the USA. Emigrating from England and Australia respectively, they chose Los Angeles as their home and have propelled the city’s architectural profile ever upward while witnessing enormous shifts in the worlds of design, photography, and print media. City of Dreams s authored by Kelly with photographs by Street-Porter.

British-born Tim Street-Porter is an award-winning architecture and design photographer and author, who lives in Los Angeles with a home in Sydney. He received a Lucie Award for architectural photography. He has worked for most of the design magazines in the USA, including Architectural DigestElle Décor and Vanity Fair, as well as World of Interiors. Tim has written and photographed over 10 books on design and architecture, including Los Angeles, L.A. Modern, and Palm Springs: A Modernist Paradise, all published by Rizzoli.

Annie Kelly is an Australian-born design writer, author, and editor. She lives in Los Angeles with husband Tim Street-Porter. Trained as an artist, Kelly launched her design career in 1994 when her first project, Frank Lloyd Wright’s “La Miniatura” in Pasadena, was featured on the cover of Architectural Digest. Her work has also been published in Metropolitan HomeWorld of InteriorsElle Décor, and Australian Vogue Living. She has also authored eleven books on design, published by Rizzoli, including her four-book Rooms to Inspire series.

Visual World with Victoria Lautman is hosted by veteran Chicago Public Radio’s arts journalist, Victoria Lautman. In it, she explores the constructed environment in its various forms: architecture, design, fashion, art, landscape, or the intersection of several.

Lautman is a longtime SAH/SCC member and journalist who wrote the groundbreaking book, The Vanishing Stepwells of India (Merrell, London, 2017). Her photographs of these little-known marvels have been featured in several exhibitions, including at the UCLA’s Fowler Museum in 2018. Besides her long-running radio programs in Chicago dedicated to art, literature, architecture, and design, she contributed to dozens of international newspapers and magazines including Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, Metropolitan HomeElle Décor, and many others.

Light refreshments will be served. Street-Porter and Kelly’s new book, City of Dreams: Los Angeles Interiors - Inspiring Homes of Architects, Designers, and Artists will be available for sale at the event (courtesy of Chevalier’s) and can be signed by the authors.
