Join co-sponsors SAH/SCC and the Neutra Institute for Survival Through Design for a salon with Haig Fisher at Reunion House (Richard J. Neutra, 1950) on Sunday, August 2nd from noon to 2pm. Fisher will share memories of his childhood living at Reunion House with his stepfather Dion Neutra and of his step-grandfather, Richard Neutra.
Fisher and his sister, Wendy, were children when their mother married Richard’s son Dion and the newly blended family moved into the house in Silver Lake. With a new family and a decidedly unique house, this little boy suddenly had to navigate growing up Modern. Fisher will share his recollections of being in the space in a small, exclusive salon setting.
Reunion House is one of only two properties (with the VDL Research House) that Richard Neutra both designed and lived in. He and his wife Dione lived there in the mid-1960s, as Richard and Dion rebuilt the VDL House after a 1963 fire. Dion lived in Reunion House from the late 1960s until his passing in 2019. Dion left the house to the Neutra Institute for Survival Through Design, a nonprofit founded by Richard Neutra in 1962. The Institute now uses Reunion House to further its educational mission to preserve and share the Neutra family’s legacy while promoting research-based design that benefits people and the planet.
