Join the SAH/SCC for an in-person celebration of our members at the Charles F. Lummis House and Garden (a.k.a., El Alisal, 1897, Charles F. Lummis) on Saturday, June 10th from 4-6 pm.
After three years, SAH/SCC is welcoming our members for food, fun, history and architecture. The event will include tours of the Lummis House and a tribute to recently retired SAH/SCC Board Member and Past President, Merry Ovnick.
When Charles Fletcher Lummis (1859-1928) author, Los Angeles booster, and founder of the Landmarks Club of Southern California, was offered a job at the Los Angeles Times in 1884, he decided to walk from Cincinnati. On this trip he became enamored with the American Southwest and an advocate for Native American rights. Lummis would go on to be instrumental in the restoration of the missions and become publisher of the magazine Land of Sunshine. He built El Alisal in 1897.
Come celebrate the rich cultural and architectural history of Los Angeles! The event is FREE for SAH/SCC members and $10 for non-members. The $10 fee is applicable towards membership for those who decide to join the organization.
