On Saturday, June 21st, join Victoria Lautman as she explores “Press Print, Build House: 3D-Printed Homes Revolution” at the historic Neutra Office Building in Silver Lake.
3D printed architecture has been spreading exponentially around the globe, with multi-home communities springing up in the US, Mexico, Italy and the UAE. From a village school in Malawi, to a three-story apartment building in German, to a row of sleek bungalows in the Netherlands, and even NASA lunar habitats, the opportunities are endless. Some projects are printed on-site, using large-scale industrial equipment, others are assembled from prefabricated components. Regardless, the process of printing a home vs. building one addresses critical contemporary issues of sustainability, construction speed, affordability and climate resilience. California helped pioneer the 3D printed house movement.
Join Victoria as she welcomes Dr. Babak Zareiyan, founder of the Additive Construction Company, who led the first permitted 3D concrete printed structure in California and Gene Eidelman, co-founder of Azure Printed Homes, an award-winning pioneer in sustainable 3D dwellings that use recycled plastic and fiberglass with a patented printing process, all from their factory in Gardena.
VISUAL WORLD with Victoria Lautman explores the constructed environment in its various forms: architecture, design, fashion, art, landscape, or their intersections. A long-time cultural journalist, Lautman has contributed to many newspapers and magazines, and hosted long-running programs. In 2017 she published The Vanishing Stepwells of India (Merrell, London), a groundbreaking book about the little-known architectural marvels.
